Tips for Interview Attire

55% of initial impressions come from the way you dress. You should always dress your best for an interview and be cautious as to what your interviewer will assume about you based on your overall appearance.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a straight answer as to what you should wear for a job interview. Every job has different requirements for what they expect you to look like. However, here are some tips to identify the proper interview attire.

Dress for the Job

Every job has a different dress code. For instance, you wouldn’t wear a suit to work as a technician. However, you want to look presentable at your interview and show some professionalism in your attire.

To avoid under dressing and overdressing, a good rule of thumb is to dress one level above the job you’re interviewing for. For example, wear a nice pair of pants and a dress shirt for when you are interviewing for a labor job and wear a suit for a corporate job.

Be Conservative

You want to be remembered for your qualifications, not your outfit. Remember, it takes less than a minute for an interviewer to decide whether they want you or not, so always dress more on the conservative side.

It’s important that you be yourself during your interview and showcase who you are as a professional. However, having several piercings and tattoos showing may come across as unprofessional and disrespectful to the interviewer. Be sure to wear clothes that completely cover your tattoos and wear clear piercings or take them out. You want your interviewer to pay attention to you, not the way you look.
